HeartBeasts is a collaborative monster-battling tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) for 3 to 5 players, including 1 player acting as the GM. All other players play as a trainer: a human coming of age in a world where nearly everyone is bonded with heartbeasts: resilient, magical creatures that take the place of regular animals. Battling is an essential social and sporting activity for heartbeasts and their trainers. You’ll battle alongside your beasts, your friends, and your rivals—but you’ll also go on adventures and maybe even save the world.

HeartBeasts is most directly inspired by the Pokemon games, but it’s much more team-focused and cooperative, not unlike other JRPGs such as Persona. It also draws on nostalgic ‘90s Saturday morning cartoons about the power of friendship, like Digimon or Sailor Moon. It’s intended as a beginner-friendly TTRPG for fans of Pokemon and similar series, but also as a system with enough crunch for dedicated TTRPG fans to sink their teeth into.

We’ll be hosting our drop-in ‘tasting menu’. Drop by to try out a HeartBeasts battle, choosing from a range of scenarios! Battles should take only about 15-45 minutes, and all materials are provided. You’ll learn the fast-paced, co-operative combat system of HeartBeasts, get to meet some cute critters and learn more about the game! Suitable for beginners and tabletop veterans of any age.

We’re Charlie (she/they) and Ajda (she/her), a married couple in the Bay Area. Charlie is from the UK and Ajda is from Ohio. HeartBeasts started as a way to keep our spirits up during the immigration process, and has since took on a life of its own. We live with three adorable, terrible kitty-cats.
