Meet the Team

Anyone who engages in storytelling games in the Bay Area and remains committed to our values is a member of BATS. That said, we do have a few fearless leaders:

Dibson

has loved to play all his life. He plays board games, video games, roleplaying games. But also music and songs. And now he works in mental health and gets to play mind games with people to help them feel better.

Known For:

His solo acoustic guitar music, hosting Play the Bay’s story game night.

Currently Playing:

Mythic Bastionland, The Between: Ghosts of El Paso

Kai

did a lot of theater growing up and now it's turned into all this. He gets his kicks from moral quandaries, in-character improv, GM-less storytelling, and compelling redemption arcs. Still hasn't figured out how to nail Act III, though. Tell him how you do it!

Known For:

Being the guy trying to get you to play Stewpot.

Currently Playing:

Stewpot (he saved a seat for you) and Mothership, but his most-played game is "Do I have enough room on my games shelf for this?"

Kris

loves weird little games; especially ones that let them play as a little creature or require making a map. You can find them reading a book, starting a new hobby, and making themed lists for their gaming group to pick and play from.

Known For:

Running Micro RPG, yapping.

Currently Playing:

Moonlight on Roseville Beach

Rory

is still shocked that nobody else did this first. He loves games that make him cry and also games that let him play wretched little creatures. He’s often the guy answering your emails at Victory Point Café.

Known For:

Being “The Yazeba’s Guy,” pointing at birds.

Currently Playing:

Our Values

We believe in the power of bringing people together around shared tables and shared stories. BATS prioritizes building meaningful connections between community members, fostering friendships that extend beyond our events.

Community First

We are committed to highlighting and supporting local game creators, independent publishers, and marginalized voices within the TTRPG community. Our platform celebrates diverse perspectives and ensures that underrepresented creators have space to shine.

Amplifying Voices

BATS maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward hate, bigotry, homophobia, transphobia, racism, and all forms of discrimination. We recognize that creating truly inclusive spaces is an ongoing journey, and we are committed to continuous learning, growth, and improvement in our practices and policies.

Inclusivity

We embrace our community-driven origins and small scale. Rather than competing with established events, we aim to platform others in the hobby while adding our own unique voice to the chorus, creating opportunities that might not exist elsewhere while supporting the broader community's health and growth.

What about Dungeons & Dragons?

D&D is by far the most famous TRPG, and the mother of the genre. BATS does not platform D&D events or content.

This is not because the game is taboo, or because we think there is no place for it at any table. It is because D&D (and Hasbro by extension) has long overshadowed the vibrant indie game design community that now exists. We seek to break that pattern and provide a space for indie games to be discovered and thrive.

Are you a D&D fan? Great! That means you’re likely to also enjoy one of the thousands of other tabletop RPGs that have come to exist in the decades since its release.
